Solidarity With Nigerian Lesbians, Gays, Bi-Sexual and Transsexuals (LGBT).

Couples will end up in jail for a mere reason of loving one another. This is a demonstration of “A planet controlled by imperial powers, its resources plundered and its people forced to live with inexorable wars, poverty, diseases and unjust laws.” We are saddened and troubled by the recent legislature that was passed by the general assembly and the Nigerian government to suppress preferences of people on their sexual orientation and relations. This unjust law will, as Hassam Soweto highlights; call an increased violence and anarchy on Gays and Lesbian, Bi-sex and Trans-sex , as the situation was already volatile towards these people.

An intensified prejudice towards LGBT people is a blow to the overall working class struggle against the common enemy, capitalism. And as a result, we see the passing of this law as one of the stunts of capitalists system and their governments to distract and shift the focus of Nigerian masses from real issues confronting the nation, such as socio-economic measures to address poverty problem and internal security measures to address corruption which is rampant. Or for that matter, enforce all means possible to stop massacres fueled by Muslim officials as reports says!

Socialist Youth Movement in South Africa asks; asks why should the state and society interferes into sexual matters, so long as no one’s interests are encroached upon!!!

As Socialist Youth Movement of South Africa, make a solidarity call to the working class and all progressive organizations of Nigeria to stand up and fight this superfluous and evil law, but to collectively fight and smash this unscrupulous system which continues to put our people everywhere under misery. Even though the law also sets to punish those who associate or work or promote the LGBT rights, it is up to the soulful activists to stand up and fight for and with their brothers and sisters who are facing a ridiculous law and an extremely dangerous dispensation fore. As we dedicate, like any other genuine Marxist-Trotskyites organizations, to fight any form of oppression, we support all the initiatives like Education Rights Campaign, organizations like the DSM, Queer representatives and any other organization that may be fighting in one way or another.

We believe all human beings shall have all the liberty to exercise their thoughts and feelings without being regulated by any kind of authority, as long as they don’t infringe anyone’s liberties. We believe LGBTs should be given their own rights to exercise their choices. What happens behind doors in people’s bedrooms between two mutual persons does not concern any law or government.

It is pathetic how the capitalist reactionary vessels press buttons that will only advantage them to stealing votes of the people. With the law enjoying as far as 98% support of the overall population, the Jonathan ‘s crew is likely to enjoy next elections’ votes and secure victory. Even the support of the masses, it is by no mistake they are supporting the law, it is how the government is maneuvering the situation and with education curriculum, media and churches to their advantage,  indoctrinate the society, even the working class itself. So it is up to the working class leadership to educate and overturn the mentality and reduce and ultimately erase the capitalist propaganda of culture and all the aerobatics.
